Asset and Investment Recovery in the Modern Market

Asset and Investment Recovery in the Modern Market

Due to various mergers within the pharmaceuticals industry, many companies are downsizing and consolidating their buildings and plants.  In a plant consolidation project, multiple buildings are combined into a few, and occupants and assets must be relocated.  R. Baker & Son brings vast expertise to these projects.

In years past, most pharmaceutical plant consolidation clients opted to disconnect and sell off many of their larger assets, and mainly relocate only the portable assets necessary for daily operation.  For lab and process users, this meant lab benchtop equipment, portable isolators, milling machines, autoclaves, incubators, drying equipment, scales, shaker tables etc. In today’s market, however, asset and investment recovery has changed, and more firms are choosing to relocate existing large assets from one building to another to decrease the capital expenditures. Plant relocation contractors like R. Baker & Son are now requested to move equipment such as boilers,  chillers, large autoclaves, lyophilizers, cage washers, downflow booths, large exhaust fans and process air handlers, just to name a few.

Relocation of existing plant assets sometimes necessitates the repair or modification of equipment to bring it up to date. This oftentimes occurs with expensive process equipment that cannot be renovated on-site, so the equipment must be disconnected, disassembled, packaged, and shipped back to the vendor for the upgrades and modifications required. Large projects are logistically challenging and often involve a multitude of pieces of equipment with various designations such as direct relocation, on-site modification, and off-site modification.  Most pharmaceutical plant consolidation projects must be accomplished in multiple phases requiring very detailed planning, scheduling and execution. A new set of occupants move into a consolidated facility during each phase, and equipment transfer, installation, connection to utilities, and testing must be precisely coordinated to fit within the phases of the project. These challenging, multi-faceted projects should not be left to chance with less experienced contractors.

R. Baker & Son has performed numerous total-care plant consolidation and plant relocation projects involving asset relocation, asset recovery, asset repair, and new equipment installation throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, particularly in the northeast, in locations that include New York City, New York state, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington DC. Clients appreciate our depth of experience in these areas and superior ability to perform these projects smoothly and on schedule, with minimal interruptions, at a reasonable cost.
