A Tale of Two Projects - Red Bank, NJ

A Tale of Two Projects - Red Bank, NJ

Dual roles were required for R. Baker & Son on a recently completed pharmaceuticals facility project in New Jersey.  While one project team executed complex demolition, dismantling, and select demolition at the facility, another completed a challenging rigging and assembly project.

When owners decided to reutilize a portion of the large building that had stood vacant for nearly two decades after undergoing partial demolition, R. Baker & Son was called in to pick up where the earlier work had left off.  Because the building remained occupied on both sides and on the floor below the work area, all piping, electrical and controls running through the vacant space had to be painstakingly traced, identified and labeled.  Live utilities were carefully marked, cut, capped, and dropped, and services were carefully relocated to accommodate users without interruption.

To minimize disruption to building occupants due to dust, noise, and vibration, R. Baker & Son worked closely with owners to develop a detailed project schedule.  Work was scheduled for early mornings, lunchtime and after-hours.  Rolled carbon filtration was installed on all outside air handling units to reduce dust and odors, and a water misting system was utilized to capture and control construction dust.  Crews performed strict cleanup of work areas, and stairwells, entrances and exits were broom swept, mopped, and HEPA vacuumed on a daily basis.

While demolition crews performed their portion of the project, the rigging and assembly of complex process equipment was simultaneously underway.  After a crew of R. Baker & Son millwrights received truckload after truckload of thousands of unassembled parts, the equipment was carefully sorted and routed, and the Baker team worked closely with vendors to assemble the intricate equipment.  R. Baker & Son crews also assisted with HEPA filter installations and offered startup commissioning support to keep the project on its very aggressive schedule toward on-time delivery.
