Eco-Friendly Solutions for Dismantling, Demo & Decommissioning

Environmental Solutions for Dismantling, Decommissioning and Demolition

Demolition, dismantling, or decommissioning of industrial facilities is a complex process that requires meticulous planning and execution. These sites often contain hazardous chemicals, substances, and materials that need to be identified, handled, and disposed of properly. Additionally, there may be recyclable and salvageable materials that can be recovered and repurposed.

At R. Baker & Son, we understand the importance of thorough site assessment and planning. Our team works closely with clients, including their Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) personnel, to determine the potential substances and materials present at the site. We conduct comprehensive site assessments to test and identify all chemicals, fluids, and materials, including those that may be hidden in aged facilities' abandoned pipes and tanks.

Once all contaminants are identified, we develop a detailed remediation plan that covers scheduling, regulatory reporting, abatement, remediation, and disposal. This plan ensures that the entire process is carried out safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Our services include the safe recovery of refrigerants, hydraulic fluids, and glycols from equipment and mechanical systems. We also ensure that fluids are properly drained from tanks, columns, vessels, and pipelines before they are flushed, decontaminated, or removed. HVAC duct systems may contain accumulated dust and debris that may require removal. Proper abatement protocols are strictly followed when the presence of asbestos, lead paint, and PCBs, are detected.

If equipment and machinery are being relocated, we ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations by removing certain fluids prior to transport.

Demolition debris that can be recycled is sorted either on-site or sent to an off-site facility. We recover and properly handle recyclable materials such as metal, brick, concrete, cardboard, plastic, wood, glass, gypsum, carpet, and insulation. Old ballasts and fluorescent lighting are also carefully recovered and handled.

R. Baker & Son is 100% LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) compliant, ensuring that our clients receive all available points on projects that qualify for LEED certification.
