R. Baker & Son Comprehensive Equipment Management Strategy

demolition equipment at JFK NYC

Demolition projects demand specialized equipment, machines, and tools to ensure safe and efficient execution. At R. Baker & Son, we employ an array of assets, including excavators, cranes, flatbed trucks, Lulls, forklifts, cutting torches, concrete saws, and more, to tackle each project's unique challenges. Keeping track of this extensive inventory, monitoring their locations, conditions, and preventive maintenance requirements, is a large and complicated task.

To manage these assets, we utilize sophisticated software that meticulously tracks asset inventory, job locations, preventive maintenance schedules, repair statuses, parts requirements, and warranty information.

Our success extends beyond meticulous record-keeping and up-to-date inventory management. Our repair shop and on-site operators are the driving force behind the efficiency of our demolition projects. We implement various procedures to maintain optimal performance:

1. Well-trained heavy equipment mechanics: Our mechanics diligently perform preventive maintenance in our shop and make emergency field repair visits when necessary.

2. Operator training: Proper training for field operators is paramount at R. Baker & Son. We ensure that all equipment operators understand how to use the machinery correctly, carry out basic maintenance tasks, identify anomalies, and report issues promptly.

3. Safety checks: Before each use, we conduct thorough safety checks, including verifying alarms, lights, emergency stop functions, and control operations.

4. Regular inspections: We regularly inspect equipment for worn, damaged, or malfunctioning parts and call for field service from our mobile equipment mechanics when required.

5. Post-use cleaning: After each use, we thoroughly clean the equipment to remove dirt, dust, and other demolition materials that could obstruct proper functionality.

6. Lubrication: We provide on-site lubrication for moving parts to reduce friction and prevent premature wear and tear.

8. Manufacturer recommendations: We adhere to the equipment manufacturers’ recommendations for regular maintenance, as this not only extends the equipment's lifespan but also ensures worker safety and increases productivity by reducing downtime.

9. Equipment check-in: Upon its return to the shop, each piece of equipment undergoes a detailed checklist and is tagged with its status for immediate visual inspection.

By implementing these procedures, we ensure that our demolition equipment operates at peak performance, maximizing project efficiency while prioritizing worker safety.
