Demolition: What's Your Approach?

Green House Demolition

When it comes to defining a construction project’s approach, most good project management teams can produce a plan that methodically lays out phases, tasks and timelines in meticulous detail. The larger or more challenging a project is, the more remarkable it is to behold an expertly-designed construction plan that drills down and coordinates a multitude of tasks, trades, equipment and deliveries to individual line items. Except, that is, when it comes to demolition, where demolition contractors are usually expected to plan their own approach.

Demolition is often the first item on a project schedule, but it is rarely broken down line-by-line on a project plan, no matter how difficult or complex it may be. Instead, “demolition” often stands as a separate entity, an undefined block of activity.  During the bidding process, it is not uncommon for five different demo contractors to submit project bids based on five distinctly different - and at times ingenious - approaches, which can be a real eye-opener for project planners who envisioned the demolition phase in an entirely different way. Not only should clients and construction managers always learn the demolition plan of approach, they should tap into the ingenuity of an experienced demolition contractor like R. Baker & Son, with over 80 years of experience, to refine their own project plans, avoid problems, improve schedules, and decrease project costs.
